How Parents Can Help:
1.
Designate a quiet practice spot in your home and encourage good practice habits.
2.
Determine a set 20-30 minutes of uninterrupted practice time per day.
Mornings are often best for busy children!
3.
Practice
with
your child. An adult’s guidance can be crucial in the beginning stages of learning correct
posture, positioning, and technique.
4.
Consider private lessons! One on one instruction is ideal for learning a new instrument.
5.
Bring your child’s instrument to school when it is out of tune.
Your child should never practice with an out of tune instrument.
6.
Attend your child’s first concert.
Support from both parents and teachers helps to maintain a child’s interest and excitement.
7.
Take advantage of local concerts, especially those offered at SUNY Stony Brook’s Staller Center--many of which are free!
